The return journey typically departs Hallstatt between 15:00 and 16:00, reaching Vienna by early evening. Hallstatt lies at 511 meters above sea level, and the road from Bad Ischl climbs through hairpin turns with no crash barriers on the lake side. Coaches equipped for alpine routes handle the approach without difficulty, but passengers prone to motion sensitivity should request a seat on the mountain side of the vehicle. The village has no dedicated coach terminal—buses park in a gravel lot 150 meters uphill from the tunnel entrance, and the walk back involves a moderate incline on uneven pavement.
